WIDEST SELECTION OF NATIVE AMERICAN ART ONLINE
TRUSTED BY THOUSANDS OF BUYERS SINCE 1999
Born in 1948, Jean Sahme Nampeyo was a Hopi-Tewa potter from Hano at First Mesa on the Hopi Reservation. As the eldest daughter in a family of eight, Jean was deeply influenced by her mother, Priscilla Namingha Nampeyo, and grandmother, Rachel Namingha Nampeyo, who she worked alongside with in 1972. Jean's pottery is a reflection of her respect for traditional methods, with designs including butterflies, migration patterns, and bird elements. In recognition of her talent, Jean was named an "Arizona Living Treasure" in 2014 and her work can be found in galleries, museums, and private collections worldwide. Her Hopi name, Sak'Honsee, meaning "Tobacco Flower," was often included in her signature, and she would sometimes spell her name as "Sahme." Jean passed away in October 2024.
